Rodent Entry and Proofing at a Family Home
The problem
A homeowner contacted CounterPest after hearing scratching at night and finding droppings in a kitchen cupboard. The activity had become more noticeable as the weather turned colder.
Rodents are not simply looking for food. Homes offer warmth, shelter, water and quiet nesting areas, particularly in wall cavities, sheds and behind kitchen units. Mice can enter through gaps as small as a pencil, while rats will use damaged drains, broken air vents, gaps around pipes and poorly sealed doors.
What we found
Our inspection identified several likely entry points around the property, including gaps around external service pipes and damaged vent protection.
Once inside, rodents can move through concealed areas of a property where they can feed, nest and avoid disturbance. This is why simply placing bait or traps may reduce numbers but does not always prevent the issue returning.
What CounterPest did
We carried out a targeted rodent treatment using secure, professional bait stations and monitoring points placed in the areas of activity. The treatment was checked and adjusted over follow-up visits to make sure activity was reducing.
Just as importantly, we completed proofing work to remove the access routes:
- Sealed gaps around pipework and service entries
- Repaired and protected vulnerable vents
- Advised on minor housekeeping and external storage changes to reduce attraction
The result
Rodent activity stopped, and the identified entry points were secured to reduce the risk of reinfestation. The homeowner was given clear advice on what had caused the issue and what to watch for in future.
